Best Day Ever
One of my long term friends that I know from my days of working in China taught me to use the phrase “Best Day Ever!” …and to mean it.
At first I found the repetitive use of this phrase a conundrum of logic - how could THIS day be the best if I have used this phrase as recently as yesterday?
She simplified it for me: “It’s mindset, Lavender!”
In truth, she’s so right. Living in the moment is a deliberate choice. Mindset is the basis for the best-selling research-based work of Stanford psychologist Carol S. Dweck… and it’s a great concept to understand so we can get the most out of every day.

As part of my storytelling film work, I have recently worked with some amazing people who embrace this concept to the utmost level.
Newlyweds Nick and Hannah were clearly savouring the experience of being married to their soulmates in the stunningly beautiful Potter Settlement Vinyards and Estate Winery, surrounded by their dear friends and loving family. While weddings can sometimes weigh heavily on matrimonial couples, these two had agreed to let things unfold as they should. The positive, relaxed and open vibes emanating from this young power couple opened the door to their Best Day Ever.
When I connected with Hannah just 2 days in advance of her wedding, she was the most chilled out bride-to-be I had ever encountered. I asked to know her secret and guess what she said? “I’ve just made a deliberate choice,” shared Hannah.
Was it a perfect event? That depends on how one would define it. When some behind-the-scenes logistical issues collided with an actual wild windstorm, there may have been some doubters in the crowd, but the challenges became woven into the fabric of this beautiful story. Perfection isn’t a necessary ingredient in “best”. So their day was better than perfect. Sincerity, patience and love prevailed. People laughed, cried, danced and lived one more beautiful night under the stars.
It was a real-life telling of a storybook tale. Definitely the Best Day Ever.
