Two Love Letters and a Bright Red Truck
When LeeAnne and I were married (30 years this June!) a friend made a video recording of the ceremony and reception. As the family archivist, I find it curious that we never sit down and watch the whole video. Our tolerance for cringy fashion choices and iffy audio seems to be too low to get us through the whole tedious hour.
When a prospective client reached out last year, their wedding was only a few weeks off. Creating a wedding film hadn’t made the cut for their budget because their expectations were modelled after the standard “set it and forget it” model that has dominated the wedding media industry since the advent of video cameras.
With the all-important vehicle parked between the bride and groom, they read their love letters just prior to taking the trip down the aisle.
Their thoughts evolved when they shared their story with me. Among the fascinating details of their well-developed relationship was a certain red pickup truck. It was their vehicle for their first date. It was their wheels as they sought adventures throughout their flourishing relationship. And it was even the vehicle they used to ferry home their beautiful newborn daughter. We just knew that the red pickup was going to be central to the love story of Caitlin and Tyler.
As the couple had invested time in sincere and personal letters, we planned a private reading in advance of the ceremony. Respecting the tradition of not seeing each other prior to the event, the red pickup was employed as a screen between the bride and groom.
The heartfelt scene that unfolded is at the heart of the couple’s highlight film. It’s a centring moment in an otherwise energetic day. Despite the epic drone shots and spectacular fireworks, this film is often referenced as “the one with the red truck”. Their love story has been viewed hundreds of times on social media and it continues to inspire prospective couples as they explore making a unique wedding story film of their own.
Experience the story for yourself. And watch for the truck!
