Stories About Us: The Quinte Business Achievement Award Films

When the lights dim and the screens at the 2024 Quinte West Achievement Awards Gala come alive with the work that’s been on my screen for the past several months, there is definitely a charge of adrenaline to be had.

Making films that somehow capture the essence of “Businessperson of the Year” and “Business Excellence” and “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” represents a professional challenge that I am absolutely ready for. But I still get nervous.

The QBAA honours its signature award recipients with a three-minute custom story-based film. Crafted specially for the gala and for the perpetual gallery on the QBAA site, the films aim to capture the broad story arc of the award winners in a concise and engaging video narrative. Each serves as a trophy in itself but also as a time capsule that preserves the challenges and victories of the business journey that led to the prestigious award.

In crafting these narratives, it’s my personal goal to ensure that each story is universally relatable. For a solopreneur and for a multi-national success story alike, there are elements of drama that speak to the heart of anyone that’s ever tried piloting a business in choppy economic waters. Perhaps some in attendance resonated with the account of the hate crime that happened to Taylor Russett’s downtown café and wine bar or maybe they raised a glass to the important innovation in manufacturing that happens in the lab at CpK Interior Products. This year’s gala viewers were touched to hear about Lorraine O’Quinn’s business journey to the top of her industry while coming to grips with a new perspective on health and wellness that she now shares for the benefit of others.

All three of these films are presented here, as well as on the QBAA site and in other locations. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed the planning, interviewing and post-production of these stories.
